John Moorcroft
I am one of the founding members of the freediving group who started training at Dorothea in 2000. I have dived around the coast of North Wales since the age of 9 and admit to being obsessed about being underwater. Spearfishing is one of my greatest pleasures and spending hours in the sea taking a few bass home for tea is my ideal way to spend the day.
My freediving achievements include; winning the UK national competition twice, being a former member of the UK national team and I think I held a UK record for static for a while?
My favourite disciplines are dynamic (distance apnea) without fins, and constant weight both with and without fin. I sometimes teach freediving courses for DeeperBlue at the SETT and have recently qualified as an AIDA ** instructor.
Apart from freediving I lead a complicated life juggling my job as an ecologist with family life and freediving. I aspire to become very good in all disciplines of freediving (except no limits and static which I believe are pointless) and to do more to promote freediving as a sport that enables people to fully appreciate the beauty of the underwater world.
